I would start an IV first, get some fluids pumped in as I monitor their vitals. If the pulse stops, then yes, I would do CPR. But some people naturally have a weak pulse, some are weak only because they are dehydrated, etc. Basically, I would need to perform a thorough assessment before deciding whether or not CPR was appropriate.

One of my main concern is will I have to get in the water and get wet? Everything pretty muchly revolves around my acne medication. I hate to get wet in the middle of the day because it wipes off the acne medication on my face. If I do swim I usually prefer to swim in the morning or night so I could shower immediately after because I reapply my medication in the morning and late at night. Or will the course be mainly on land on dry surfaces? Also is there a lot of studying required for this course? I’m taking a ton of classes and don’t want this class to take too much of my time.

On May 28, 2009, my friend Stephen, who was only 17, was playing basketball in our high school gym when he collapsed from a sudden arrhythmia. Our gym teacher began CPR and then used an AED. The paramedics arrived and rushed him to the hospital. After 4 hours of doctors doing CPR and everything they could, Stephen passed away.
Should it be mandatory that all teachers from pre-school to college universities be required to know CPR and how to use an AED just as all health care workers are required to?

Well my friend has always been a bit of a hothead and he decided it would be a good idea to pick a fight with 3 guys from another school. Luckily for him they didn’t fight him that day, but a few nights later he calls me and tells me he needs to see me. So I go over (his parents were out of town), and there is a gash in his leg about 1.5 in. deep. He was in a lot of pain, but it looked like a it was just a flesh wound and missed the bone. I poured some hydrogen peroxide on it and used some 2-octyl-cyanoacrylate glue from my lacrosse bag (I have to carry the medical kit and AED to games) to close it up, as well as wrapping it with an old t-shirt. He can walk a little bit, but I just want to be sure he’ll be okay.
Having been through something like this before (stepping on a nail with no shoes on) I made sure to clean it out and check for rust particles as well as metal fragments. I found a little bit of dirt, but I was able to get that out easily.
