If you are being paid to be a First Aid-certified staff (e.g. Lifeguard, Safety supervisor, First Aider, etc.) then you are obliged to do first aid.
If you are a regular person on the street, then you are not required to do first aid. Frankly speaking, most people would get involved if help was required – even if that means simply calling 911. You’ve got the training, you should put it to use!
IF you start treatment (CPR or otherwise) you are required to:
1) Continue until it is either unsafe to you to continue, or until you are too exhausted to continue
2) Stay at the scene of the incident until professionals arrive (EMS and police will want to interview you and get some information on your treatment and on the situation)
3) Do the best you can using the knowledge you have — do what you were taught
As someone else mentioned, the Good Samaritan Act (in a majority of states, provinces, and territories) is a good thing to review. This act will cover any liabilities if you choose to do first aid, provided you follow the requirements stated above.

Mi Law Regarding First Responder Vehicle Lighting?

I am a certified first responder through the American Red Cross for First Aid, CPR, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens. I am not employed by any fire department, however upon witnessing vehicle collisions during my daily 30-minute, one-way commutes on often icy and snowy highways (especially now), it would be considered my duty according to my trainers to stop and offer my assistance when possible. The problem is that I would really like to have some additional warning system in the rear of my vehicle (such as an amber traffic adviser or some amber strobes/LEDs), but I don’t know if this would be legal or not. I’ve seen several studies online about the importance of vehicle lighting, and I simply wouldn’t be very comfortable assisting in a car collision if I didn’t have any other means to protect myself and the accident site. From what I’ve read, vehicle lighting is the key to dissipating secondary collisions.
Would installing an amber traffic adviser or some tail-light modulators or amber strobes be illegal in Michigan?

I will list some similarities that I have came across:
Both wear uniforms
Both have firearms permit and carry guns
Both use Batons
Both use OC spray
Both use handcuffs
Both drive vehicles (security officer drives company security vehicle)
Both ride Segways
Both are certified in CPR/First Aid/AED
Both are licensed, certified and trained!
Both carry wallet badges/patches ect.
Both receive some sort of benefits!
Both use hand held radios
Both do “report writing”
*Important note – A security officer only needs to renew his firearms permit every two years. A police officer needs to do it every six months.
*Security officers outnumber police 3 to 1 in the U.S.
*Security officers are always the first responders to an incident
So what are the main underlining differences?

Or do I need to take both of these classes plus more? because i want to be over qualified any where I go to be a lifeguard.
(Here are some training classes below, should I take both? if yes, what others should I take too)
ARC Lifeguard Training

work with kids in africa and i am still willing to pay for all my flights and food and stuff.
i’m not stupid and i’m not trying to get a free vacation where i can help out. i am a senior in highschool and i’ve heard of a couple other students being able to do this and i’m really interested. i am also cpr/aed and first aid certified so i’m not just randomly jumping into something for it to look good on a resume or transcript. i love working with animals and kids and it would really be a great experience. thanks for all the feedback!
