There are various types of defibrillators but all of them do an identical job just in a slightly different way. There are external ones that you're going to find at varied locations including your local shopping mall, theatre, baseball court etc. If you've got an existing medical condition, your health practitioner might have recommended you get an internal one.

The purpose of both types is to return your heart rhythm to a typical reading as an abnormal one can lead to a coronary. The hearts main function is to pump blood and oxygen around the body. It works at perfect levels when your heart rhythm is standard. When the heart malfunctions, the rhythm changes leading to issues with the pumping mechanism. This is turn causes issues with the oxygen supply to critical organs including your cortex. Left untreated it can cause death or severe brain damage.

The body reacts to a scarcity of oxygen by forcing you to lose consciousness. But though this can buy you some additional minutes you may die unless an AED is used to return your heart rhythm to standard levels. An AED delivers a shock to your heart which should get the rhythm back to normal. It does not always work but the technology has saved many lives.

If you've a medical condition which predisposes you to cardiac arrest your health practitioner may recommend that you have an implantable cardioverter defibrillator put into your heart.

The device acts in much the same way as an AED. It'll deliver a shock if your heart rhythm does not stay within a specific range. Or your health practitioner might prefer to treat your condition with tablets. While it's very important to search out a 2nd medical opinion if you are not 100% satisfied with your health practitioner you shouldn't act on guidance you read on the internet. Only your medical staff are acquainted with your personal health history and they're properly qualified to assess your condition or refer you to a specialist. Some individuals are chary of having a defibrillator fitted but though the devices have been improved over time, the principles remain like those introduced in the 1960′s. So there have been lots of health tests and experiments carried out to check the safety of these devices.

Why cant I depend on an AED? If you're predisposed to a heart stoppage do you really want to take the chance that an automated external defibrillator will be available to you? Or that somebody close by will understand how to use it? Though we should have more AEDs and more people with AED training the truth is that at the moment there is a lack. If your physician suggests an internal device follow his advice!

His wife just had some heart attack type thing which they had to put a permanent defibrillator in her for (i was shown the scar). The business runs itself almost completely, the owner only has to restock inventory and do the deposits once each day (2 smoothie bars in the gyms on an air force base). They want to slow down and take things easy for her heart and to pay off a lot of personal debts to help them just slow down. Does that make any sense? I mean, going to a store every night at 7 pm to pick up money, and inventory randomly throughout the week, I imagine theres a minimum of 10 hours of work done each week, and a max of 20, so why would anyone sell that?
They also are not able to produce a tax return/income statement because they haven’t owned it more than a year, but they paid $30K and are asking $45K, it was one smoothie place, but in the past 3 months they opened the second one. Fully staffed, franchise with low fee’s and full flexibility to add to the menu (just can’t subtract). It sounds awesome, but almost to good to be true. I was able to look over 2 huge books of receipts for all the months they’ve been open all the way to this October, and it really looks like they average $500 a day in sales.
$15,000 in sales a month, $500 rent (air force base), $395 franchise fee’s, $3600 employee wages. The lowest days I saw were $200 days, so on that could lead to a break even some months.
Any opinions would be great before spending $45K on something. Maybe they haven’t paid their tax’s and I’d be stuck paying like $15K worth of tax’s this coming april??

One year ago, I suffered a cardiac arrest (ventricular fibrillation) when in an ambulance, after a mild heart attack. Paramedic CPR, defibrillator and intubation (I guess!) brought me back to life after 5 minutes. Once in the hospital, I had to vomit blood. Because they couldn’t understand the cardiac arrest since I had only a minimal heart attack, they implanted an ICD. One year after, I am fit as a fiddle and jog every day. My heart didn’t suffer any damage.
But I wonder about the bleeding. The thing is: Right before I passed out in the ambulance, the EKG instrument that had been used to check my heart, felt on my chest. It didn’t hurt but then, I was already IV’ed with morphin.
Not a big deal, it’s just that I wish I could understand why my heart went into ventricular fibrillation when, apparently, the thrombosis was minimal.
Professional paramedic answer would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Grunge was the defibrillator and it revived rock by bringing Alternative to the masses… but thanks to the likes NSYNC and BackStreet Boys it died again. It seems rock was somewhat rececitated with the little garage rock boom that lasted form 2002 to 2003… but yet again it died and it appears right now it wont be coming back. Yes I know there are some great underground bands… but nobody is listening to them.

Hey there-
I’m 20 years old and have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. i have severe chest pains and have no idea how to exercise. i get short of breath doing simple things like carrying laundry up stairs. i hate it, because i am 20 and feel like i cant do anything. i am on medication (480mg verapamil, & 25mg atenolol a day), and i cant get put on more due to super-low blood pressure (i get very light headed). my doctor keeps telling me to limit activity more and more, but i have always been very active and know that i need to find a way to exercise to stay healthy. Any help would be amazing…it;s really frustrating feeling like i cant do anything physically. i have an implanted defibrillator so i’m not scared of what might happen, but everything hurts my chest and makes me short of breath.
any ideas on staying active but being easy on this crazy heart of mine?

I have tried using the equation V=Q/C by using 350 J for the Q and 3e-5 F for C, but I don’t know if I have my units wrong or if I’m just going at the problem in the wrong way. The answer should come out in volts, but every answer I’ve tried, webassign has said is wrong.
Thanks for the help.

First off, I’m secretly bulimic (no one but myself knows).
Ok, so I usually do not remember my dreams when I woke up but last night I woke up 4 times and remember 4 distinct dreams perfectly. The first happened at 1:15 and I was throwing up tons and tons of blood (buckets full). Then, around 2:00, I had a dream that I collapsed in class and they needed to use the defibrillator and when the nurse unbuttoned my shirt instead of using it and trying to save my life, she kept saying “Omg her stomach is so large!”
Then, I had a dream where I looked in the mirror and had a double chin and none of my clothes fit. Then, finally, around 4:30 I had a dream that my parents went on my computer together in my room and when I walked in they were screaming at me and saying things like “Why are there all these websites on eating disorders?! Why did you ask a question on y!a about being bulimic?! What is wrong with YOU?!” and I woke up crying.
Do these dreams give any indication of what direction I am headed or are they just a reflection of my current state? Help! I don’t want the last dream to come true!

… like INSANE. And besides he’s white and he’ll do stuff that benefits only whites. And his age… we’ll probably spend a fortune buying his Depends underpants and Viagra. He’ll not only have secret service agents at his side but an EMS team complete with defibrillator as well. He’s not diplomatic as we can see from the “F*** you!” incident. He’s insensitive about our soliders’ deaths as we saw him joking about war and IDEs. He’s was affiliated with John Hagee. He will make Bush seem like a Boy Scout in his crookedness. He’s for tax breaks for the wealthy. How can a poor person vote Republican in good conscience?
