When Performing Cpr, Do You Need To Remove The Victim’s Shirt?
No it doesn’t have to be removed especially if there is something sticking out of the victim…but if you know there is something that may interfere with a proper jolt of the AED then you must remove it if you are using the AED before the EMT’s arrive…

Yes you remove the shirt ANY time you’re doing CPR. This way you can make sure to see your landmarks & are ensuring you’re doing propper compressions. You don’t have to unbutton buttons, as they snap off really easily when you rip the shirt off. T-shirts also tear easily. If nothing else, push the shirt up as high on their chest as you can so you can actually see what you’re doing. If you’re doing CPR, the person isn’t going to care if you ruin their favorite shirt!

Under any and ALL circumstances, remove the shirt. Cut it or do whatever you have to. The most effective chest compressions are done with skin to skin contact. If the person is wet or sweaty, dry the skin before starting compressions.

Honestly, why would you waste the time to remove a person’s shirt? Loosening the shirt will do fine.
You can loosen the clothing, but you do not have to remove them.
Now to use an AED, that is a completely different matter.

Yes. Remove the shirt or anything else that will get in the way. Do this before starting chest compressions.
