My Father Had A Heart Attack And Died, But He’s Alive Now. It’s Quite An Amazing Stroke Of Luck…?
Wednesday, my father suffered a heart attack and died temporarily before being brought back to life. He’s doing really well now by the way, up walking and could probably leave the hospital now, but he’s staying for some stuff
Anyway, let me set up the scene…
1) he’s an atheist
2) if he didn’t have an AED shock him in five minutes, he would be dead, CPR or no CPR
3) there were three doctors on the court next to him (he was playing tennis)
4) he was near a hospital
He might not be alive and well if any of those did not come to be, incredibly unlikely series of events.
So I ask you this: If God hates atheists so much that he would send them all to hell, why would he allow all of these events to come about to save one’s life? I’m an atheist as well, my whole family is.
I just thought this would be something to make everybody think for a moment about just what it means when you say atheists go to hell.
And if you’re curious, he didn’t see any white tunnel or pits of fire or anything.
I just thought I’d share our story and maybe make a couple people think about something…

I’ve hears of similar stories before. They just don’t have the attention-seeking headline of “Miracle”.
Your dad was very fortunate to have all the medical help he needed at hand. I’m glad he’s ok and it’s good to read a story of survival that actually acknowledges the input of the doctors and medical equipment as what saved a life, rather than Gods intervention.

Yes, that is good luck indeed and you are correct. There is no god.
People tend to forget the atheist Stephen Jay Gould was diagnosed with a rare cancer in 1982 and given six months to live. He died in 2002.
Skeff is correct. You’re wasting your time if you think this will lead any fundies to reason and logic. Even today they claim miracles which are due to medical advances.

God spared your dad his life! You call it luck; but, in all reality its a blessing from God, Himself. Your dad needs to examine all that has taken place in the last four days. God is reaching out to your dad wanting your dad to come unto Him.
Time is shorter than most realize. If your dad and any one else in the family doesn’t believe there is a God; you better wake up fast. Our redemption is drawing nigh.

I’m a Christian and I don’t believe that God is involved, all the time, in saving a person’s life. Everyday good and bad people die, believers in God and non- believers die daily. However your Dad, could look, at what happened to him as a second chance in life, not everybody gets that. He can use his time now more wisely to get to know the true God Jehovah. Psalms 83:18

You won’t sway them with this, Joe. No tragedy is so extreme that they cannot attribute it to lack of faith or God’s will, nor any triumph that it cannot be attributed to God.
ANYTHING can be explained this way. That’s why they are so successful at conning so many.

You are mistaken, dear, God doesn’t hate atheists. He loves you. You are his creation too. The thing is if you choose not to believe in Him, and want nothing to do with him he’s not going to force you to be with Him when you die.

I really don’t think God would hate atheists. I think he would be glad that there are people on this planet who do not take words in a book with blind faith, but think for themselves and question things. But who knows, I can’t speak for God

Just because you were pronounced dead for a few minutes doesn’t mean you actually died.
Just because there is a god (hypothetically), doesn’t mean he gives two sh-it’s about you or your dad.

I had a heart attack, saw the white light at the end of the tunnel and was shocked several times on the way to the hospital. Walked out 3 days later with 2 stents. I do not believe in god.

God will give people several chances in life to turn their life over to Him, even if it means them dying for a moment and being brought back again. This may be what brings your father to God once and for all. I do pray that He does.
December 2, 2009 @ 3:24 pm
well maybe God was sending a sign and was trying to get your family to convert to christian so your father had a near death experience and God though that it would make ur father realize that he needs to know God.

I don’t think God covers extremely fortunate co-incidence. He’s just a lucky bugger, but I don’t think he should play tennis for a while.
December 2, 2009 @ 9:25 pm
Because his name is still far behind in the scroll of death [period].
December 2, 2009 @ 9:42 pm
You assume that God exists, when it is just as likely (if not more so) that your dad was just extremely lucky.

Do not thank god that idiot had nothing to do with it..
Please thank science!
December 3, 2009 @ 9:27 am
And I complain that I don’t win the lotto. How lucky is your father?
December 3, 2009 @ 3:02 pm
and how do we believe in your story?
December 3, 2009 @ 7:11 pm
dude, i thought it was a christian writing this until you specified otherwise…
GOD DOES NOT HATE ATHEISTS. he loves them. just as much as christians. and buddhists. and muslims. and everyone else. he just wants to get to know you. he loves you. he’s done a lot so that you can understand how much he loves you.
so, god probably wanted to give him another chance. he wanted him to think, he wanted your dad to see him… by the sound of this i doubt he even considered opening his eyes.
December 4, 2009 @ 12:26 am
Wow, and if he stays an Atheist then that would be some ignorance in and of itself. God doesn’t hate anyone. He dislikes certain lifestyles but He never hates the person. And people choose to send themselves to Hell by their lifestyle. You don’t accept Christ into your life then you face God’s judgment. Maybe it’s your dad who should be thinking.
What if he did die and stay dead? What if he did end up in Hell? Where is he willing to spend all eternity?
God is giving him a second chance at life.

our 1Creator gives u many chances to be obedient & thankful to him.
And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Sâbirun (the patient) (155) Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: “Truly! To Allâh we belong and truly, to Him we shall return.” (156) They are those on whom are the Salawât (i.e. who are blessed and will be forgiven) from their Lord, and (they are those who) receive His Mercy, and it is they who are the guided-ones. I’m a christian, i know several people who were/are atheists who have had near death experiences and come back. Most of them claim to see the white light and are now Christians, not all. God gives everyone a second chance to make the right choice, even at the end. Your father has been given a second chance at life. All of that ‘luck’ is not luck or coincidence, it’s divine intervention. If he continues not to fbelieve, he’ll end up with worse luck. On top on all of that, God doesn’t hate atheists, he doesn’t hate anyone. He loves everyone and gives everyone a second and third and millionth chance. Redemption can come at that very last second and you can be saved then. I’ve had too many bad experiences turn into things that couldn’t be explained any other way than God was watching. I’m sure all of the atheists out there will thumbs down me, but I know what I believe.

The New Testament
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but receive everlasting life. (John 3:16)
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. (1 John 4:7,
Question
So I ask you this: If God hates atheists so much that he would send them all to hell, why would he allow all of these events to come about to save one’s life? I’m an atheist as well, my whole family is.
December 4, 2009 @ 1:31 pm
god doesnt hates them. god magically created a passage between hell and heaven and the only way to enter the heaven is to accept him in your heart. if you dont, you send yourself to hell. I’m wondering how is this possible. if god cant decide who enters the heaven, then its not his fault. if god is the operator of hell and heaven, then he is the one sending them to hell and we should all impeach him for crimes against humanity.
and science still has no evidence of biblical god, yet they accept evolution as a fact. so I’ll go with science. god is a man-made myth!
all you jesus lovers, research a little bit more. jesus wasnt the only son of god in middle east two thousand years ago. he only gained dominance cause the church suppressed other small religions.
and if there would be god, then 20.000 people wouldnt die of starvation each day.

The truth is Jesus Christ loves you and your entire family even though you are atheists. When Jesus was on earth and people did not like him or believe in him he still loved them. His love does not change.
I am glad to hear about your father being better. Remember to spend some quality time with him and your family and friends. Life is short. Take care and God bless!!!!
