Epilepsy Blood Tests?
ok so i’ve been on AED’s for 7 months now and i haven’t run not ONE blood test. is that ok? i’ve been reading that every now and then u should test the levels of the meds in ur body but i don’t know how frequent u should do that. i’ve spoke to my neuro about doing it twice and he said that there is no need for those kinda exams anymore especially with the meds i’m on. is this true? and do u have to adjust ur meds every now and then? i’m on Keppra 1500mg a day and Topamax 50mg a day.

Keppra doesn’t get dosed by blood level, just how well you’re doing (seizure control).
Topamax doesn’t either, it too is dosed according to how well you’re doing.
The key for seizure control is “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” If you are finding your seizures are well controlled, and you are not having any side effects (or at least you’re not having any you can’t live with), then there is no need to change your medication.
