Lifeguard Re Certification Question?

Last year I became a lifeguard and got all of my certifications. I know I need to get re certified for CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, but I also got a Blood Borne Pathogens Training Certification. Do i need to get this one again to continue to be a lifeguard? I live in PA if that matters, and I work at an apartment complex by myself if that has anything to do with it. Thanks!

I am also a lifeguard. Life guarding certifications are good for three years and your CPR-PR is good for a year. I would suggest calling your local red cross branch to ask how often you have to challenge your blood borne pathogens test. No you don’t need it to continue being a lifeguard. I am not blood borne pathogens certified..we learned about it during our course. However, i am CPR-PR and AED certified. Call your local Red Cross :)

At the YMCA where I work in northwestern PA all the staff is required to retake their BloodBorne every year. We make it a quick renewal course and everyone comes and takes it. It’s jsut a few T/F so its not a big deal. I wasn’t required to have it as a lifegaurd specifically (at least I don’t think so) but as an employee of the Y.

That should be good for 3 years. Check on your card it should give the expiration date or when you need to recertify. Also when you go in for your CPR/AED ask the instructor. Good luck
